Carolyn Beaumont is an Australian clinician and harm reduction educator.
She is committed to improving health outcomes for lower socioeconomic communities, and reducing smoking harms is core to this philosophy.
Since 2020 Carolyn has worked within Australia’s unique vape prescription model, in contrast to the majority of Australian doctors. Via engagement with thousands of adult smokers and vapers, she has a deep understanding of the many health equity issues such a restrictive policy creates.
Her national telehealth clinic provides the full range of smoking cessation options, including scripts for pharmacy vapes and existing NRTs. With a preventive care focus, lung cancer screening and cardiac testing is offered. ADHD management is a recent addition to this approach, as optimizing this can markedly reduce one’s reliance on nicotine.
However, Carolyn has always recognized that one doctor can only reach so many people. Educating Australian doctors in tobacco harm reduction is fast becoming the primary focus of her mission. To this end, her first book ‘Unfiltered’ is underway. It is a collection of interviews with doctors across many specialties and focuses squarely on the harms caused by smoking and not by nicotine itself. She is also creating an online THR hub for health professionals called NicotineFacts. The concept is an app-based multi-media hub, with content delivery that suits the realities of a busy doctor’s schedule.
Carolyn became a doctor later in life. She has a diverse background with degrees in music, medical science (dux) and education, and taught piano for many years.
