Asanda Gcoyi is a leading voice in South Africa’s harm-reduction movement, advocating for science-driven approaches to nicotine regulation. As the Chief Executive Officer of the Vapour Products Association of South Africa (VPASA), she has been instrumental in advancing responsible industry practices, notably spearheading the development of a self-regulatory framework for vaping products—an initiative that has shaped the growth and credibility of the sector in the country.
Gcoyi has played a pivotal role in national policy discussions, most recently leading negotiations at South Africa’s National Economic Development and Labor Council (NEDLAC) on proposed amendments to the Tobacco Products Control Act (Act 83 of 1993). Her work bridges public health objectives with consumer choice, grounded in evidence-based advocacy.
With over 18 years of experience spanning public policy, business leadership, and stakeholder engagement, Gcoyi brings a multidisciplinary approach to regulatory affairs. She currently serves on several influential boards, including the Advertising Regulatory Board of South Africa, and is a member of the South African Bureau of Standards Technical Committee 2112 for vaping products.
