Valerie Briggs Solomon serves as Vice President, Scientific and Public Health Affairs, at Reynolds American Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of the BAT Group. She is a global legal and regulatory expert with significant experience in scientific engagement and public policy. Valerie’s current role began in July 2025, when she returned to Reynolds from a three-year international assignment in London. Valerie spent two years as Head of Legal for BAT’s Beyond Nicotine unit, followed most recently by a term as Head of Scientific Affairs for Tobacco Harm Reduction within the BAT Group.

Before moving to London, Valerie served as Vice President and Assistant General Counsel—Regulatory at Reynolds American Inc. Valerie began her career as an attorney in private practice in Washington, D.C., where she counseled clients in the food, medical device, dietary supplement, and pharmaceutical industries on state, federal, and international regulatory compliance. She previously served as Vice President, Healthcare Research, at a New York-based investment advisory firm. Valerie holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Yale University and a Juris Doctor degree, cum laude, from the American University Washington College of Law.
